As a race, humans have depleted the planet of its natural resources. We have and continue to devastate ecosystems from pole to pole. We all need to increase our green! Each individual needs to initiate at least a few simplistic and enjoyable green changes into their lifestyles. Being green is not difficult. On the contrary, it is natural and entertaining. Being green gives you a new part of yourself to be proud of. When you know that you proactively take the time to be environmentally responsible, it gives you a good feeling inside. It helps you to develop a holistic sense of purpose for your life and helps you to understand just how we each fit into the overall picture of the universe.

Here are some excellent and painless ways for you to begin going green today:

1.          Modify your transportation choices. Try riding a bike, walking or jogging once in a while. Roller skates and scooters are great fun and effective exercise as well. You can also use mass transit systems that are available in most every city.

2.          Decrease your personal demand for paper products unless they have been recycled. Opt off of phone company mailing lists so that you cease receiving huge phone directories that nobody even uses anymore. Go paperless whenever possible.

3.          Recycle anything that you can. Newspapers, plastic bottles, scrap metal and many other items are able to be recycled and reused. This decreases toxic manufacturing processes that deplete the land of resources and fill the soil, water and air with pollutants.

4.          If you have to commute regularly, consider joining or forming a carpool. Remember: it’s cool to pool!

5.          Try to keep your purchases local. The shipping of products around the globe is a huge contributor to pollution in all forms.

6.          Support your local farmer. Eat fruits and vegetables that are in season and do not have to be shipped.

7.          Grow a garden. Fresh vegetables are the healthiest things for us to consume. Growing your own saves money and greatly increases your health. Water-rich foods are what our bodies are designed to eat.

8.          Can your garden vegetables each fall for a supply of delicious winter veges for your family. Get back in touch with nature!

9.          Start a compost pile. Put vegetable scraps, lawn trimmings and the like in it. Use the compost to enrich your soil so that your veges grows bigger and more healthful.

10.       Go meatless - at least one or two days per week. Cattle ranching in particular is a significant contributor to the release of noxious gases that poison our atmosphere and increase deforestation. Save a cow and a tree together!

11.       Become a hunter. If you eat meat, you should learn to harvest it for yourself.

12.       Become a fisher. Fish and other sea creatures are full of delicious nutrients. There are a million diverse and scrumptious recipes to try!

13.       Lower your thermostat a few degrees in the winter and raise it a few in the summer. Saving energy saves the environment from fossil fuel expenditures and the resulting pollution.

14.       Plant a tree here and there. You can get saplings for next to nothing at many nurseries. Planting trees is a great way to encourage environmental responsibility in your children. It also increases biodiversity on the planet.

15.       Talk about conservation. Show others that you feel good about your efforts to be green. They will respect and admire you for it. Make being green something that it should always be considered as: Natural!

When you commit to go green, you are saving the planet a little at a time. You are a force of positivity and light. You inspire others and teach them what we all should know and practice. Start today and be proud to be green!
